Hajj Fund Plan
Build your Hajj fund with a clear target, a realistic timeline and a saving habit you can keep.
Start preparing for the journey
Wanting to go for Hajj and having the money ready are two different things. This guide helps you turn the intention into a plan you can work on now.
For me, cash feels spendable. Gold feels like savings I want to keep. That is why gold became part of my own preparation—not because the price was guaranteed to rise.
If you came from my “HOW TO GO TO HAJJ WITHOUT SAVING” post, this is what I mean: changing how you keep money aside, not removing the need to prepare financially.
1. Give your intention a planning date
Write down the year you hope to go. Treat it as a planning horizon, not a confirmed departure.
Check the current application process and payment dates through official channels. Having your fund ready does not guarantee a place or travel date.
2. Find your own cost target
Start with a current package quote from an authorised provider. Record its date, what it includes and when payments would be due.
Add the expenses you expect to cover separately, such as personal spending and support for family at home. Avoid counting anything already included in the package twice.
Your working target = package quote + separately budgeted expenses.
Set a review date. An old package price is a reference, not a current quote.
3. Give your gold savings a milestone
We’ll use 100g as an illustrative accumulation milestone. It gives you a countable target—but it is not a promise that 100g will cover your Hajj costs.
Starting from zero, the monthly gram targets look like this:
| Example timeline | Monthly gram target |
|---|---|
| 3 years | 2.78g |
| 5 years | 1.67g |
| 10 years | 0.84g |
Monthly amounts are rounded up to two decimal places, so maintaining them would accumulate slightly more than 100g. These are arithmetic examples, not recommended timelines or product purchase increments. No investment growth is assumed.
The BND needed to buy those grams changes with the purchase price. Check whether the commitment fits your budget rather than stretching to meet the table.
If you already hold gold specifically for Hajj, subtract those grams from your chosen milestone before dividing by your remaining contribution months.
4. Check the cash requirement too
Grams give you a progress measure. Your package payments still require money.
For a simple cash-only benchmark:
(Cost target − accessible Hajj cash already set aside) ÷ contribution months = monthly amount.
Example only—not a package quote: a BND24,000 target, with BND6,000 already set aside, leaves BND18,000. Across 48 months, that is BND375 a month, assuming no growth or changing costs.
This benchmark and the gram table are different planning views—not two amounts you must automatically contribute on top of each other. If combining cash and gold, check the combined fund against one cost target without counting the same money twice.
If the commitment is too much, revisit the timeline, a suitable lower-cost package if available, or what you can sustainably set aside. Do not borrow to buy gold or use your emergency fund for it.
5. Review both grams and usable value
Keep a simple record in your own notes:
- Grams currently held for Hajj.
- The provider’s current buyback quote—what they would pay you, not their retail selling price.
- Estimated cash proceeds after applicable costs and currency conversion.
- Accessible Hajj cash held separately.
- Your latest package target and upcoming payments.
Gold prices fluctuate. Purchase and buyback prices differ, so the amount paid to acquire gold is not necessarily what you could receive by selling it.
As payment dates approach, review how much must already be accessible in cash. Plan ahead rather than depending on a favourable gold price at the last moment.
What happened with my Hajj fund
My planned Hajj in 2020 did not proceed. Around that period, roughly BND10,000 bought approximately 150g of gold.
In 2025, I sold about 150g for around BND17,000. My Hajj package that year was BND19,600. The gold helped to cover the shortfall.
That was my experience over that particular period—not a forecast for yours.
Your next step
Write down your cost target, planning year and an amount you can realistically set aside. Review the plan as quotes, prices and payment dates change. You do not need to send anyone your balances to use this guide.
