My BND4,000 Umrah Plan
How I would gradually build my Umrah fund instead of waiting until I have BND4,000 in cash.
BND4,000 ≈ 21g gold* — an October 2026 planning reference, not a package quote or a current price. Gold prices and Umrah costs change over time.
1. “InsyaAllah, one day” needs a target
Many of us say “InsyaAllah, one day” about Umrah. The intention is sincere — but without a number and a date, “one day” keeps moving.
Instead of waiting until there is an extra BND4,000 sitting available, give Umrah a target you can gradually work towards.
MY ILLUSTRATIVE UMRAH TARGET
BND4,000 ≈ 21g gold*
You don’t need 21g today. You need a timeline and a place to start.
*BND4,000 is my own illustrative budget anchor, not a quote for any current Umrah package — your package, season and travel needs may cost more or less. 21g is what BND4,000 roughly matched as an October 2026 planning reference; the amount of gold equivalent to BND4,000 changes with the gold price.
2. 21g sounds like a lot — until you break it down
Divide the gram target by the number of months you have. That’s it.
| Timeline | Sum | Per month | Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 21g ÷ 12 | ≈ 1.75g exact 1.75g | 1.75g × 12 = 21.00g |
| 2 years | 21g ÷ 24 | ≈ 0.88g exact 0.875g | 0.88g × 24 = 21.12g |
| 3 years | 21g ÷ 36 | ≈ 0.58g exact 0.5833g | 0.58g × 36 = 20.88g |
| 5 years | 21g ÷ 60 | ≈ 0.35g exact 0.35g | 0.35g × 60 = 21.00g |
Choose your timeline. Build the grams gradually.
3. About the rounded numbers
The monthly figures are rounded to two decimals so they’re easy to remember. They’re approximations, not exact totals:
- 2 years: 21 ÷ 24 is exactly 0.875g. Rounded up to 0.88g, 24 months gives 21.12g — slightly over.
- 3 years: 21 ÷ 36 is 0.5833…g. Rounded to 0.58g, 36 months gives 20.88g — slightly under, so you’d top up about 0.12g somewhere along the way.
- 1 year (1.75g) and 5 years (0.35g) divide exactly.
And remember the bigger moving part: you buy gold with money, not grams. If you save a fixed BND amount each month, the grams you receive change with the price at the time. If the price rises, the same 21g may cost more than BND4,000 later; if it falls, it may cost less. Gold is also bought and sold at different prices (the spread), so the cash you’d get when selling is not the same as what you paid. Treat the gram target as a guide and recheck it.
4. Your timeline decides the mix
Gold is one possible tool here, not automatically the answer. When you plan to travel matters more than anything else on this page.
- Travelling soon (roughly within the next year), or deposits/package payments coming up: keep the money you’ll need for those payments in cash. Gold prices can be lower right when you need to pay, and selling takes time and involves a spread. A gold-only plan is not ideal for near-term payments.
- A few years away: some people choose to build part of the fund in gold gradually, while moving into cash as payment dates approach.
- Always: keep your emergency cash separate and accessible. Don’t put your emergency fund into your Umrah gold, and don’t plan to raid it for the trip.
For me, cash feels spendable. Gold feels like savings I want to keep. That’s my experience — it may not be yours.
5. You don’t have to start with 1 gram
With a Public Gold GAP account, you can start accumulating gold gradually instead of waiting until you have enough money to buy a whole gold bar.
- Start from RM100 / around BND35
- Accumulate fractional grams
- Keep adding over time
- Build towards your Umrah target
The grams you receive from RM100 / around BND35 depend on the applicable gold price at the time of purchase. Current minimums, exchange conversion and account terms can change — confirm the latest minimum and terms with Hazirah before you start.
Start small. Build consistently.
6. Your “one day” can start today
Grab a notebook or your notes app and fill these in. Nothing here is sent anywhere.
- My Umrah target: BND ______
- My gold reference target: ______ g (check the current price when you set it)
- My timeline: ______ years = ______ months
- My monthly gram target: ______ g / month (target ÷ months)
- My starting amount: BND ______ / month
- Cash I keep for near-term trip payments: BND ______
- Emergency cash I won’t touch for Umrah: BND ______
- My review date: ______ (e.g. every 3 or 6 months)
Quick method: monthly grams = gold reference target ÷ (years × 12). Then check what that roughly costs at today’s price, and whether that monthly amount fits your budget after bills and emergency savings. If it doesn’t, extend the timeline or start smaller — starting is the point.
7. Review and adjust regularly
- Recheck your Umrah budget with your chosen agency as your travel date gets closer.
- Recheck what your BND target equals in grams at the current gold price.
- Move near-term payment money into cash ahead of deadlines.
- If you fall behind, adjust the monthly target or the timeline — don’t abandon the plan.
BND4,000 = 21g is an October 2026 planning reference only. Gold prices and Umrah costs change over time. This guide is general education, not personal financial advice.
